Old Dogs movie: 

“Old Dogs” is a complex period piece on the gerontology of the animal species, and will receive a plethora of Oscar nominations. No, I am just dogging you! “Old Dogs” stars Robin Williams as Dan and John Travolta as Charlie. “Team Danlie” (sort of speak) are two middle-aged BFF who are also business partners of a New York sports marketing firm. Dan has been divorced twice; even though one was an annulment from a one night stand due to crazy partying in South Beach. Charlie is still single living life as if he was in his twenties by picking up hottie “Charlie’s Angels” left and right. The premise bark of “Old Dogs” is that Dan discovers he is a father of 7 year-old twins when the past one night stand Vicki (Kelly Preston) suddenly meets up with him and throws the kid bomb at him. Dan still has the hots for Vicki, so in part of his courting in trying to get the Vicki’s Vapor back in his life, he agrees to care for his newfound kids while Vicki is away to prison for two weeks for trespassing. Dan is not exactly bait as being a prototype adult who works well with kids, so he asks Charlie for assistance during his daddy-o experience. Consequently, the slapstick kicks in during many of their experiences such as: a brutal Frisbee game during a camping weekend trip, a prescribed drug mixup that causes zany effects, and an uproarious Zoo experience. Team Danlie, at the same time they are caring for the kids, are also trying to lock up a lucrative business deal with a Japanese corporation; so of course these Old Dogs are turning Japanese, I think they are turning Japanese, I really think so. “Old Dogs” is silly, predictable, immature, and delirious (like this review). But somehow I could not stop laughing! So even though the film did not teach this Old Dog new comedic tricks, I still found it to be a “guilty pleasure” laugh riot. Travolta and Williams were moderately comedic playing their prototypical characters in this genre. However, the young dog who was the top dog here was Seth Green with his gagfest performance as assistant Ralph. His frightened gestures & screams were a comedic classic. So I am probably the only pseudo-critic who might give kudos to Director Walt Becker and Screenwriter David Diamond for their film-making of “Old Dogs”, but I cannot deny the fun I had in my dog day afternoon watching “Old Dogs”.
